From the Russian Constructivists to the Sex Pistols
Learning graphic composition through hand-made collaging practice.
This 3-4 hour practical design workshop began with a quick introduction to the art of collaging by looking at works from Moholy Nagy to Jamie Reid for inspiration.
The workshop participants then learnt compositional basics by first creating dynamic compositions using abstract forms.
But then it was time to break all the rules. Working with low-tech materials, old school techniques and avant garde strategies, each participant had the opportunity to create their own series of graphic compositions expressing their aesthetic interest that could be used in a design portfolio.
The compositions were photocopied and made into a rough DIY 'zine' called Mach was! for each participant to take home as a print out and a PDF.
